Right now he wants to actually seriously talk with her, even if it's in an elevator of all things. But also he wants to hold her hand, provide some level of support as they get through this-- even if she doesn't want something like this from him. He doesn't want to lose her and what they already have. Hopefully she knows that from his simple grip.]
...I want to do boyfriend and girlfriend things. [Which sounds kind of funny because it's stuff he already does with her-- with a lot of people, actually. Kissing, hugging, going on dates, even having sex. And it's not like the resort actually cares about anything but the last bit, so it's not quite putting a finger up at the casino.
He just... how does he word all this?? Scott takes in a deep breath, like he's trying to organize everything he's saying.]
Which I know we already do those sort of things-- we do that with a lot of our friends already and like I said, I don't want you to stop doing that with them. They make you happy and I don't want to lose that with them either, honestly. I just... I just want to be special to you too, because you're special to me.
[Because in the end, he does like Kotone, a lot. The first person that he sort of really helped in the casino, the person that helped him through his headache at the club, them going through the heart stuff, and just so many other things they've been through-- most of it sexual, of course, but she's made him feel comfortable and normal. She's also accepted both sides of him, that emerging person that wants to be leader and the boy that wants to be normal.]
I want to call you my girlfriend and be a couple... because I feel so comfortable and myself around you, even when I'm still figuring that out.

When he puts it like that, it seems so simple. They can keep doing what they're doing, what they have to do with each other and with their friends, but maybe it's putting a word to this feeling she's carried, deep in her heart. Kotone doesn't know how long she's felt this special feeling, one making itself known with each rapid beat of her heart that sends more warmth to her cheeks as she gazes down at their joined hands, but it's been there for a while. Maybe even since they'd first met, back on that too-hot beach and he'd shown her such kindness.]
I'd really like that, [she admits finally, glancing up to meet his sunglasses with an almost shy little smile. Her thumb traces a gentle, idle pattern along the back of his hand as she takes a deep breath and forces herself to stand up straighter. This is important!!] But... you promise you won't get mad or sad if I flirt with other people...?
[Or do more than flirt, but that goes unstated, because she's sure he gets the implication. Like, it is still a sex resort! And he'd said he doesn't want her to stop doing that kind of thing with her friends, but still...]

His heart jumps actually hearing her response-- I'd really like that. Maybe he shouldn't look as surprised as he feels, but there's no hiding that, nor can Scott even begin to hide how all that quickly changes into a bright smile. Open, unrestrained, the mutant looks so happy and it's all because of her and really, it's like all of those earlier doubts fade as he squeezes her hand. She actually wants something like that with him?? She'd want to call him her boyfriend...?]
I promise. [He says, breathlessly, even though he hasn't done any hard training or anything, but he feels winded in a good way and though it may seem like Scott is just agreeing to what she asks, he seems genuine-- if also speaking like something is caught in his throat. Again, however, it's only because he sounds and looks so happy.] As long as you promise me that you won't get mad or sad either if I flirt with other people.
[Whatever constitutes as flirting for Scott Summers anyway, but he pulls their joined hands to his lips before kissing the back of her hand.] But I swear on my title as Cyclops... and as Scott Summers that it'll be fine to me.

Promise! [she agrees, more for his sake than anything else, because of course she wouldn't get mad at him for something like that? Here of all places! Especially since it seems like they move in the same circles of friends, so it'd be pretty hypocritical of her to demand he only have eyes for her when so many of their friends are so attractive.
Yet one more laugh as he kisses the back of her hand like some kind of knight in a fairytale, then she lunges forward to wrap her arms around his neck for a hug. Her heart almost feels like it might burst from all the emotion swelling within it, leaving her just pressing her cheek against his so he can feel the force of her smile. She has no idea how things might change with this new relationship between them, but more than anything, she trusts Scott not to make things weird or difficult. Turning her head, she presses her lips to his cheek with a giggle.] You smell nice.

It's a simple fact but one that Scott can't help but hold close, almost amazed to see this reaction from her. He wants to continue looking at that bright smile, knowing that he's responsible for it. Whatever he does as a X-Man in the future, it almost feels like it still wouldn't measure up to this-- that he was able to make a girl that he really likes be this happy just because he asked her out.
So, does that mean they're officially a couple? Just like that? He almost wants to laugh.
He barely registers her return promise before he lets out a small oof, followed by a bright laugh as she envelops him in a tight hug-- something that he easily and heartily returns by wrapping his own arms tight around her. Squeezing and laughing as well, that swell of emotion just as strong as before but it's filled with just relief and warmth and joy and it's almost bursting from his chest. Has he felt this happy before? Something so uncomplicated without being tugged down by worry and anxiety?
He's not sure.
Scott warmly presses his cheek against her lips, and she may still feel the stretch of his smile because in turn, she's made him this happy.]
That's like dating 101, wear cologne for your date. [Although dating 101 probably said not to ask a girl out in the middle of the elevator-] For your girlfriend.

I never took that class. [She leans back and gives him another undimmed smile, though her eyes are sparkling in the way they do when she generally means mischief.] Did it also say the best dates are in elevators?

[More teasing, even though Scott honestly can't imagine Kotone wearing perfume at all. Look he had to explain what hair conditioner was to her, he has a hard time thinking she owns a bottle of perfume. It's okay though!! She smells just fine as is. He might even go as far as to say she's perfect--
Even when she's pointing out that they're still in this elevator and not out there exploring the decked out lobby and other festivities that he's intended to take her to. AND THEN THE ELEVATOR IS MOVING-- KOTONE!! He isn't about to let her go just yet, so he tries to reach over to the buttons to press the door open-- but it's definitely too late. He'll just have to contend with waiting for the elevator to go back down.
Just for that, he reaches down and brushes a hand against her side in an effort to tickle her.]
Oh yeah that's also in the class, the best dates start in an elevator. [No, but who is gonna correct him right now?! Honestly, he's about to put in his own experience to make that true, because he's having a great time right now.]

[And now she's being tickled! She squeaks and tries to shy away from his offending hand, making to grab it with her other hand to get him away! No fair!! What kind of boyfriend starts tickling immediately?!]
What kind of perfume do you even like? [she asks between giggles, finally grabbing his other hand and holding it tight in both of hers. If their first date as boyfriend and girlfriend is really going to start in the elevator, he can hold her hands and NOT tickle!]

Holding hands together, which of course they've done plenty of times in the past, but things have actually changed despite them not yet doing anything too different from before. Context and shit really matters, huh?

[The elevator doors open a floor above the lobby, and Kotone just uses her grip on his hand to pull him out after her. They can take the stairs down before the elevator keeps going up!]

[But in a good way!! He wouldn't want anything less. Maybe he really has a thing for certain kind of girls-- a stray thought goes to a certain telepath back home, but it's quickly swept away because he's here with Kotone. Someone that he has feelings for in similar but also differing ways... because they are different still and that's a good thing.
He likes-- wants her because she's Kotone Shiomi. The bright smile, the pouting, the nosiness, but also the sadness that she carries. He's not the type to ignore something about someone. He wants to be there for her, like she has for him. Kotone's definitely not changing his mind with the way she just leads him out of the elevator, practically tugging him along, though the mutant easily goes along with her.]
But that's why I like you. [He catches up with her so that they can walk side by side, their hands still clasped together and lightly swinging them.]
...And it's nice to do normal stuff like this together, don't you think? [He asks almost softly, even if 'normal stuff' is currently taking the stairs down with her to get to the lobby.]

Yeah, [she responds in kind, squeezing his hand as they make their way down the stairs.] It really is normal.
[And there's a deep affection in her voice, a longing that even she doesn't quite know how to put into words, but this kind of normalcy, this kind of time spent with a friend -- a boyfriend, even! -- is more important than ever.]

It's nothing over the top, but there's a certain shyness to her smile, and obviously he can tell the difference!! He's so familiar with those bright expressions, one that she is still giving him, but it definitely feels and looks just a bit different in a good way. Knowing that she's been affected just as much about this... a look soon matches her, something flushing across his cheeks as he smiles back.

Being with Scott isn't anything like that, though. Even if, like he says, he shoots lasers out of his eyes, being with him is a glimpse at the kind of normal high school life she could have had if things had been just that slightest bit different. She wouldn't change the way things had gone, unwilling to shy away from it all, but it's nice to pretend at something normal, even if it's just for her time here.]
I won't, [she promises, tugging him closer at the foot of the stairs and leaning up to give him a gentle kiss as if to seal that promise.]

Scott pulls away for a moment, although he can't help but briefly close their distance once more to give her another kiss. You know, just because. He's allowed!! But since they're actually going somewhere and they shouldn't spend all their time in front of a stairwell, he steps forward a little bit with their hands still clasped with the mutant grinning bright at her.]
Come on, I still have to give you a proper Christmas Eve date. You know, complete with hot chocolate and looking at the lights and everything else. I heard that they've even set up one of those booths where we can take pictures together.

[Can't quite resist getting one more tease in, even if she's equally at fault for making them miss their original elevator stop. It still feels a little funny, how things have changed between them, but not really at all? Does calling him "her boyfriend" mean things are different, or does it just put a name to the feelings she'd already had, deep in her heart? Whatever it is, she doesn't think that warmth to her cheeks is fading any time soon... so it's good that Scott can only see in red! So he won't notice!!

[Maybe it sounds exaggeratory, but to him, it is a pretty big deal to suddenly become boyfriend-girlfriend with someone! Especially someone that he's genuinely liked for so long, someone that makes his beat that much faster whenever she's around. Sure nothing has like magically changed and the title of boyfriend isn't flashing above his head, but... there is something that is just a bit weightier now, but in a good way.
Even as they continue to do the things that they've already been doing. Like he would've just taken her out to do photos and get hot chocolate even without this change, but... it definitely makes his smile that much brighter, his emotions deeper, as he leads her out into the lobby. He smiles bright as they walk, lights reflecting off his sunglasses as he starts leading them to the photo booth.]
Have to memorialize the day, right? I definitely don't want to ever forget.

A glance toward him, the way the lights illuminate his face, reflect off his glasses, highlight his obvious joy. That she was able to make him this happy, just by saying yes... it's incredible, really. It brings a soft warmth to her smile, even as she swings their joined hands between them.]
