CHARACTER(S): N/A.
INVITED BY: Sara!

IC

NAME: Kotone Shiomi.
AGE: 17.
CANON: Persona 3.
CANON POINT: post-game.
CRAU: N/A.

SUITABILITY:
While Kotone is 17, her entire canon is about making connections and forging bonds with other people. Of the 6 possible romance routes in a single playthrough, the female protagonist can ostensibly date all of them at the same time with no in-game penalty or showing any remorse during jealousy dialogues, and it's strongly implied she has sex with at least one of them (Theodore), if not more (fade to black, "you spent a long time [with them]"). She's not afraid of physical connection or sex, tending to treat it very lightheartedly. Emotion is more intimidating than something purely physical! But it's something I'd like to play out with her.

HISTORY:
While Kotone doesn't remember much of it, her story begins ten years before the start of the game, when her parents were killed in an incident on a moonlit bridge on Tatsumi Port Island. That incident led to a piece of Death being lodged into her soul. She spent the next ten years in and out of foster care and orphanages, eventually returning to Tatsumi Port Island for her second year of high school and the beginning of the game.

Upon her return, she discovers the existence of the Dark Hour, a hidden hour at midnight that can only be experienced by those with the potential to awaken a Persona. She signs a mysterious contract offered to her by a strange boy, and a few days later, during an attack on the dorm, she awakens her first Persona, Orpheus, and (though she doesn't know it), the piece of Death that had been lodged into her years ago erupts as the Persona Thanatos. This Persona rips apart the powerful Full Moon Shadow and leaves Kotone unconscious and exhausted for days afterward.

After defeating that first Shadow, Kotone joins a school club called SEES whose goal is to destroy the Dark Hour; they think they can do that by fighting eleven more Full Moon Shadows like those that attacked the dorm and by exploring the towering structure of Tartarus, the form their school takes during the Dark Hour. Over the course of the game, Kotone learns to strengthen her Personas by forging bonds with her friends, almost all of whom have a lesson to teach her either overtly or covertly about accepting loss.

Even after defeating all of the Full Moon Shadows, Kotone learns that all they were actually doing by fighting these Shadows was hastening the end of the world. With this revelation, SEES is forced to make a choice -- either stop fighting, lose their memories, and enjoy whatever remaining time they have left before the otherworldly maternal being Nyx returns and destroys the world, or keep fighting an impossible battle trying to save the world from the inevitable apathy.

With Kotone at the lead, SEES chooses to keep fighting, but soon discovers that it's impossible to kill Nyx. Kotone sacrifices herself to seal Nyx away, preventing her from reaching humanity at the cost of her own life.

With the destruction of the Dark Hour, almost everyone in SEES loses their memories; before the final battle, they'd made a promise to meet together for Graduation Day in an attempt to regain those memories. Though Kotone is only a shell of her former self, she drags herself to continue living that last month so she can meet everybody on the rooftop for Graduation Day and fulfill that final promise before she finally falls asleep on that rooftop, becoming the Seal to prevent Nyx's return and shortly after, passing away.

ABILITIES:
Persona: through use of a gun-shaped summoning tool called an Evoker, Kotone can summon a manifestation of the human collective unconscious or psyche that embodies an aspect of her soul. This often takes the form of godlike figures from mythology. As she's from the end of the game, she has an assortment of rather powerful Personas at her disposal.

HOWEVER as she'll be arriving without her Evoker, she'll have no way to summon them (at least initially. Whether some kind of event could restore her ability to do so would be entirely up to mod discretion, or whether it would be something purchased via Game 52). They'll be present in her heart, but unable to be manifested without some kind of external force.
  • Messiah: almighty and physical attacks; weak to dark/curse [Judgement]
  • Helel: healing skills and almighty skills; weak to ice [Star]
  • Cybele: revival skills, physical skills (pierce) [Lovers]
  • Mara: physical skills (pierce) and fire; weak to ice [Tower]
  • Surt: strong fire attacks; weak to ice [Magician]
  • Alilat: strong ice skills; weak to fire [Empress]
  • Norn: strong wind skills; weak to electricity [Fortune]
  • Odin: strong electric skills; weak to wind [Emperor]
  • Sandalphon: strong light/bless skills [Moon]
  • Metatron: strong light/bless skills; weak to dark/curse [Aeon]
  • Thanatos: strong physical/light skills; weak to light/bless [Death]
  • Orpheus Telos: some skills from above Personas, resists all damage [Fool]
  • She can use a naginata and other polearm-like weapons (hockey sticks, mops, etc.)

    VICES:
  • Duplicity: As a Persona wildcard, Kotone is often changing "faces" when she speaks with different people (choosing different Personas to help her say the right thing to befriend someone more easily, saying what she thinks they'll want to hear instead of always what she thinks is true, etc.) She can hide her true feelings behind a cheerful mask in an effort to be the person someone else needs the most, neglecting her own needs and wants in favor of what might be better for someone else.

  • Nosiness: Kotone tends to want to involve herself in everyone else's business, always with a smile and possibly with helpful advice, but on more than one occasion, that person didn't actually want her help (initially). She tends to be rather forward and blunt when something interests her, asking prying questions with an innocent smile to soften the impact, but still trying to get as much information about someone as possible (without also giving away anything about herself in return.) She'd say it's out of a genuine desire to help and learn more about people, but she has a tendency to steamroll over their protests in the interests of helping them.

    VIRTUES:
  • Empathy: Kotone finds it easy to relate to others; she's always ready to sit and lend an ear to anyone having trouble, no matter how trivial or inconsequential it may seem. She thinks there's always something to learn from everyone, and she genuinely cares about people, enough to sacrifice her own life to ensure everyone else would be safe for that moment and give them all a chance to live their lives to the fullest.

  • Leadership: While she doesn't volunteer to be the leader, Kotone doesn't shy away from the responsibility, either. She takes her role very seriously in battle, well aware that her orders could get her friends hurt -- or, in the worst-case scenario, killed. This leadership extends beyond the battlefield, though; she takes it upon herself to spend time with each of her team members, lending them an ear for any of their problems or trying to guide them to the best resolution. In her teammates' personal matters, she's less likely to directly order than to suggest, trying to do what's best for them as an individual, instead of making that choice for herself.

    SUIT REQUESTS:
  • HEARTS (♥): Kotone is a very emotionally-intelligent and empathetic person, though mostly regarding other people's feelings rather than her own. With the Hearts suit, I'd be looking at exploring her own emotional attachments and forging genuine bonds by being more true to herself. She's also deeply lonely, so exacerbating that feeling is fun for me to play with, especially with regards to her getting closer to other people! She tends to see the best in everyone and prioritize their feelings, so it could also be fun to play with the more negative emotions as well, such a surge of jealousy or mania when being left alone.

  • DIAMONDS (♦): this would be my second choice, just because I'm more interested in the emotional aspect than the physical aspect. It could still be fun to explore for someone as touch-starved as she is; she already is okay with initiating simple physical contact, but never for extended periods of time, so the uncontrollable desire to want to be close could be fun to play with.
