But as Kotone quickens her pace, so does Scott, not wanting to be outdone and also, really wanting to know what she has in mind. He feels victory at the tip of his fingertips as he eventually pasts her, but they're not quite at the post yet.]

And he makes it, the mutant grabbing the wood before hunching over, trying to push air back in his lungs and settle his heartrate to a normal pace again. T-that definitely wasn't easy...! As he catches his breath, he flashes a victorious smile at her (unless she's in obvious pain, then she'll get Worried and Fretting Scott.).]
[She'll be fine! She's right on his heels, and when he doubles over, she latches on around his shoulders, laughing between gasps and coughs for air. Whew, okay, she shouldn't have tried for a race, but hopefully he thinks she's just so out of breath because they were just racing, so-!]

He's not going to complain about having her so close to him, and he turns his head back to her with that same grin from earlier.]

Their poor sandwiches are probably all shaken apart in their bags by now, but honestly that's the least of her concerns as she laughs again and grabs the post, spinning around it to propel herself up the stairs to the front door two at a time.] But I guess c'mon in!
[Scott meets her flushed look with one of his own, clearly affected by the small kiss she placed on him just now. It's just a cheek kiss, but it doesn't help with calming his heartrate, feeling it spike again just now. I-it's kind of embarrassing...! They've hugged and were really close to each other during the maze, but his face still turns red from such innocent gestures...

But Scott doesn't have long to really question his coolness, following her up the stairs with a wide grin.]

It's neater than she's ever seen Scott's -- her dirty clothes are piled in a basket near her dresser, and she slips her shoes off in the doorway to set them beside the naginata leaning against the wall near her desk. The only decorations are the various plants and flowers she'd gotten from Astralin, as well as a little statue of a dog that looks like it was made of glass (but is actually magic ice). One framed photograph stands out as the only picture in the room, positioned so that it's one of the first things she sees when she wakes up. Her desk and dresser are a little cluttered, but overall it seems pretty clean!
Most things in her room are pink, though, matching the color of her cheeks as she crosses the room and sets her bagged sandwich down on the dresser nearby before plopping unceremoniously down on her bed. It's quiet up here, away from the bustle of town and with only the occasional sound of the animals able to be heard through the open windows. She can't help but feel certain that he can hear the rapid beat of her heart even from across the room. It's still a little tough to catch her breath, but she grins at him anyway, patting the bed beside her.]

[Ken and Shinji don't and didn't count, respectively -- SEES members are different. And while it's not a big deal for her to invite boys to her room, it seems like the kind of thing that might make Scott happy to hear? She guesses, anyway.]

Take a deep breath, play it cool, and just... be yourself. Right, great, he sounds like something out of a stupid self-help book.]
Huh? Oh, your room? [He takes another look around, before smiling at her, finding that teasing Kotone helps with settling his own nerves.] It's okay, I guess.
[She watches him surveying her room, an unmistakable fondness to her smile when he pauses at the sight of the photograph. If he asks, she'll tell him about the people in it, and the party they had -- notably missing from said photo is Shinjiro, but after the maze, Scott should be able to guess why.
The fondness doesn't fade as she glances back to him when he sits beside her, even if her smile turns the slightest bit impish at his flush. For the sake of his pride, she'll just nod. Yep! First boy in her room. Usually she's the one doing the visiting.
Then she shoves him lightly with a mock-offended gasp.]
You guess? [she protests, though she can't quite muffle her laughter as she shoves him again for good measure.] I can kick over my laundry basket if that'll make you feel more at home!

A part of him is still a little excited and everything to be in her room, but it's so easy to just fall into something lighthearted between them. She's made him feel more comfortable about... a lot of things since they met, and Scott hopes that he's done the same, at least in some way.
He's feeling a little more confident about that since the maze, but also, he doesn't want to bring that up. It's all about being normal and having fun like regular teenagers, right? They can't predict what tomorrow may bring, but that's true for any world, not just this one.]

Maybe, and he'll pester her about it in a bit, but Scott's been delaying this for a while now, and he can almost feel Mitama staring at him from wherever she's at as he pulls a seashell necklace from his pocket. [He had a speech and everything, but he finds himself stuttering for a second, before somehow gaining the courage to speak.] It's okay if you don't like it, but... I wanted to you have this.
[It's kind of funny how easy it is to relax around him. Maybe it's because, unlike with everyone in SEES, he doesn't have any expectations of her. Or well, he does, but not the kind like her team had. She doesn't have to be anyone specific for him -- a leader, a guide, an assistant, a confidant. She can just be herself, whoever that is.]

For a long moment, she just stares down at it, running her thumb over the shell as he speaks. It's such a little thing, but like Aigis' charred screw, Shinjiro's watch, or the small assortment of keys, it's still something Scott wanted her to have specifically. That makes it special, her heart thudding almost painfully in her chest as she gazes up at him and closes her fist around it.]
I love it, [she says quietly, her smile small, but bright and genuine as she offers it back to him.] Can you put it on for me?
[And she turns a bit to make it easier for him to get at the back of her neck. Don't fumble it now!]
But thoughts about being in debt to the other girl fade from his mind as Kotone smiles at him. It's a small one, but somehow, it feels just as bright or even brighter than the large grins she gives to everyone. He feels his heart beat just a little faster, like he's still recovering from their earlier race, but he eventually nods and takes the necklace from her so that he can put it around her neck.
His hands shake just slightly, but he doesn't do anything too embarrassing like drop it on the ground. Scott gently brushes some of her hair aside so that he can clasp the necklace on her, taking a couple of attempts to get it clasped correctly, before pulling his hands back once it's securely on.]
There. [His smile is small, if just a bit shy as well.] It... it looks good on you.
[It's not like she didn't have an ulterior motive for having him do it; the brush of his hands against the nape of her neck feels nice, deepening the flush on her cheeks as she brings a hand up to touch the necklace and give him another smile over her shoulder.]
Thanks, [she says again, still a little quietly, but honestly. Her eyes sparkle, but only with a small amount of mischief this time as she turns back toward him and pokes his cheek with one finger.] But it's still your birthday, isn't it?
[He really cares, huh? He cares so much it almost hurts to think about, her heart beating painfully hard in her chest. She flattens her hand, cupping his cheek instead of poking it this time. It hadn't felt right in the maze, but now, in the safety and relative privacy of her room, she leans in to gently press her lips to his.]
[He smiles against the finger on his cheek, because really, he can't help it. And o-oh, she's now cupping his face, almost like a reversal of what happened in the maze and thankfully, in a far better situation. No creepy maze, no terrible mirrors, they're just sitting on her bed as he feels her lips press against his own.

He's luckily only stunned for a second, before he slowly returns the kiss, his lips slightly parting against hers. Nevermind this is the first kiss he ever had, no worries here!!]
[No worries-! This is not her first kiss, but she's gentle all the same, almost hesitant as if she's afraid he's going to change his mind. Her hand slips from his cheek to the back of his neck as she presses a little closer, tilting her head and letting her own lips part against his. Blood rushes to her cheeks as she can't help but giggle softly -- it feels like something they should have done a long time ago!
It's not a long kiss, though, as she pulls back just a few inches to grin at him. Even with his glasses, he probably can see the deep flush in her cheeks -- or, more likely, feel the warmth radiating off them as she bumps her nose against his.]
Happy birthday! [she murmurs with another soft laugh, tilting her head to try to kiss him again.]
[In the back of his mind, he worries about being a god awful kisser, the most he's really seen is from movies and shit and emulating James Bond or Han Solo probably isn't the thing to do right now. Besides, his mind is a little scrambled, and he finds himself relying mostly on instinct as they continue for a few seconds longer.
His own face is flushed, but as she pulls back, Kotone can definitely see the large smile that's across Scott.]

[He can't think of anything more witty and doesn't care to, as he feels a little more comfortable this time, and kisses her with slightly less hesitation. He raises his own hand to cup Kotone's face, his eyes closing behind his shades as he tries to take everything in through just touch.]
[His smile quickens her pulse almost as much as the kiss does, drawing another quiet giggle from her lips before they're sealed again by his. The best present ever, huh? That almost sounds like a challenge as she parts her lips and tries to gently coax his open with her tongue. At the same time, she brings her other arm up, looping it around his shoulders to draw herself in closer against him, trusting his hand on her cheek to keep them together.
Han Solo or James Bond he may not be, but it's not like she knows who they are, anyway. She just closes her eyes and goes where the feeling takes her, content to guide, but more than ready to follow his lead if he wants to take it.]

He almost shyly presses his tongue against hers, gently and slowly, not wanting to rush and because some of that earlier hesitation has returned. H-he just wants this to be nice, for the both of them, he can't possibly be known as the teen that's a bad kisser!!
He'd just bury his face somewhere and never get up because life would definitely be over.
